Tests in English: how to check your knowledge without self-deception
How to use a test not for the sake of a percentage, but for an accurate understanding of mistakes and the next step.
A test should not be the first contact with a topic
If the student moves straight to the questions, the result often shows not the level of knowledge, but a lack of preparation. First you need to watch the explanation and work through the examples, otherwise the test does not give an accurate picture of understanding.
One mistake - one conclusion
After an attempt it is important to write down not only the correct answer, but also the cause of the mistake: a tense was confused, an article was omitted, word order was wrong, or the meaning was unclear. That way the test becomes a diagnostic rather than a list of failures.
Do not retake immediately for a nice result
An instant retry often tests short-term memory. It is better to come back in a day or two: if the answer comes out correctly again, the knowledge has become more stable.
Look at recurring mistakes
One low result is not always a problem. It is more important to see the pattern: if the student makes mistakes again and again in one type of task, you need to return to the rule and examples of exactly that topic.
How to tell that the test worked
The test worked if afterward it is clear what to do next: rewatch a fragment of the video, rewrite the rule in your own words, compose five sentences, or move on to the next lesson.
